Number 3 in my sequential of remarkable American friends.
We have met during several Learning Experiences in Boston, the Living Museum Netherlands and Poughkeepsie.
Darby is one of the bravest and most resilient people I know.
She is not a person that holds back. She will tell you what she thinks and feels right away. In a most caring and loving way.
Darby is a great Peer Movement Leader, trainer and teacher. I have experienced several Trauma Informed Peer Support Training Sessions with her and groups in the USA and The Netherlands.
She co-authored The Lives They Left Behind: Suitcases from a State Hospital Attic (Bellevue Literary Press, 2008) based on a multi-method qualitative study of the lives of state hospital inmates from the 19th & 20th centuries.
Her Stories from the Suitcase Presentation is such a powerful, human, loving and overwhelming performance, that it can be easily programmed in theaters all over the world. It’s that good, remarkable and special. It holds you to your chair for hours and hours and you don’t want her to stop talking.
I hope to see you soon Darby Penney, in the USA during upcoming Learning Experiences!
